"As soon as a performer walks onto a stage they become a "space bewitched" creature where all movements are governed by the confrontational nature of the theatre: This is the situation which any person creates who instinctively steps back from a group of two or more curious spectators in order to 'act out' something for them. It is the basic situation which produced the peep show. It might even be called the origin of all theatrics" Oscar Schlemmer Multimedia practitioners, and participating instrumentalists, singers, and performers, will gain an invaluable experience in developing their performance and dramatic skills, referencing from a broad range of contemporary ideas, styles and approaches. Students will work with the intrinsic nature of theatrical expression where 2 paths are possible: Psychic expression, heightened emotion and Pantomime: or that of mathematics in motion, the mechanics of joints and swivels, and the exactitude of rhythmics and gymastics. This course absorbs instrumental and vocal performance skills into dramatic practice in multimedia. Skills developed: • Directing and working in collaborative production to realise new relationships between music performance, theatre, dance and multimedia. • Universal, and transferable cross platform performance skills working with technology, new media, music/ sound production, film-making and theatre. • Working with audio/ visual technology in live ensemble and solo performance. • Developing performance skills through creative content development processes such as improvisation and group collaboration, and drawing from a wide range of sources and subjects. • Develop performance techniques and approaches in non-narrative theatre, concepts in post-modern thought, filmmaking, and 21st century multimedia practise. • Movement and choreography skills. • Dramatic skills. • Voice skills. • Extended Instrumental skills and approaches.
Dramatic presentation skills learnt: • Lighting design techniques. • Set design and fabrication co-ordination. • Using film as set design and as an integral part of multi media communication. • Stage management, project and performance ensemble co-ordination.
